We stand at a crossroads in the world's economy. On the one hand, we are poised to generate better standards of living for more of the world's people than ever before. At the same time, it is increasingly clear that the consumption-based model of economic growth cannot be applied globally without causing immense environmental and economic disruption . Yet making the transition to a new model also presents a new set of opportunities for business.
BSR has launched a new initiative to help define and catalyze business opportunities to address the sustainable consumption challenge. This workshop for BSR member companies, and by invitation only, is an important early step in the initiative, as we aim to provide our initial framing for review and discussion, as well as an opportunity for member companies to shape our work as the initiative advances.

Join us for this full-day workshop to learn how your community engagement strategy, supply chain sustainability programs, and strategic investments can incorporate women's empowerment more effectively.
Through cross-industry discussions and industry breakout sessions, the workshop will explore women as potential assets as employees, community leaders, family caregivers, and small business owners. BSR experts will join forces with recognized NGOs and successful industry leaders in consumer products, extractives, financial services, food and agriculture, ICT, and pharmaceuticals.
According to a 2010 McKinsey study, at least one-third of companies investing in programs that target women in developing countries have measured improved profits, and an additional 38 percent are expecting returns. How is this data relevant for your company? And how can you integrate programs for women into your operations and community investments?
BSR has conducted research on the challenges women face in developing economies, as well as the vast opportunities for investment in women and their economic participation in Africa, Asia, and Central America. We are also implementing our own women's health education program, HERproject, in six countries around the world.
