JOB MISSION:
To lead and advance carbon accounting and data management across New Balance.
This role sits within the Responsible Leadership team and includes close collaboration with other internal functions and external stakeholders to facilitate and inform climate action and reliably measure progress toward NB’s climate goals across all scopes.
MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- This role is responsible for managing New Balance’s carbon accounting process, related tools, and maintaining full proficiency on New Balance’s scope 1, 2, and scope 3 GHG emissions (particularly categories 1, 3, 4, 6 and 9).
- Track and forecast long-term impact reductions that will help meet our Science Based Targets while helping to identify and drive execution of key activities to achieve these targets. This role will elevate carbon reduction efforts within New Balance by building strong relationships and solid data.
- Lead NB’s carbon accounting, working closely with stakeholders and data owners, including data collection, scrubbing, calculations, documentation, verification, and annual quantitative reporting such as annual CDP disclosure, along with additional reporting as needed.
- Maintain proficiency in accounting protocols, emission factors, and evolving guidance from GHG Protocol, SBTi, RE100, and sector-specific guidelines.
- Track progress toward NB’s public sustainability goals, create content for NB’s annual sustainability report and quarterly updates for senior leadership and other digestible reports and educational formats for key stakeholders.
- Facilitate reduction efforts in partnership with Operations, Finance, and the senior leadership team. Prepares case studies and document learnings and key barriers.
- Support NB’s RE100 goal, including NB’s RE100 roadmap development and assessment of opportunities to source renewable energy. Manage global REC/EAC procurement process.
- Support implementation of an internal price on carbon.
REQUIREMENTS FOR SUCCESS:
- Bachelors degree related to sustainability, environmental management, or related field. Masters Degree and/or professional certifications preferred.
- 5+ years relevant experience
- Comprehensive understanding of sustainability metrics, emissions inventory protocols, carbon measurement, reporting standards, carbon offset and REC marketplace and procurement, internal carbon pricing models
- Experience with decarbonization and emissions reduction strategies
- Knowledge of energy auditing, existing renewable energy alternatives to fossil fuels, energy consumption forecasting and energy modelling
- Strong project management, organizational skills, and attention to detail
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills are crucial
