About The Role

The Senior Manager, Global Water Stewardship supports the Global Sustainability function, all Brands, International Sourcing team, Strategy, and other cross-functional partners in leading the key work streams in the Water Stewardship Program, focused on the Company’s largest environmental material risks – water and climate resilience. The Senior Manager sets the vision and strategy for Gap Inc.’s Water stewardship program globally, including water use within our broad operations and supply chain, as well as in the communities in which we operate. This includes operationalizing the 2030 Water Strategy, with a focus on reducing the water footprint in manufacturing apparel across the supply chain, replenishing water to nature and communities in priority high-water-stressed regions, and improving access to clean water and sanitation for communities touched by the apparel industry.

This position will lead in developing, scoping, and launching strategic initiatives and alliances. The Global Water Stewardship Sr. Manager will support a team in the development, management, and programmatic efforts to reduce the use of water in product development and manufacturing and support social and environmental investment opportunities to replenish water to nature and provide safe access to clean water.

What You’ll Do

  • Provide clear leadership and direction for the Global Water Stewardship Team, in strategy development, project management, developing work plans, coordinating with project teams, developing regular meeting agendas, and ensuring teams are meeting goals and deadlines.
  • Manage one direct report and collaborate frequently with global cross-functional team members.
  • Manage complex global nonprofit partnerships and engagement in collective action initiatives.
  • Build Gap Inc.’s external credibility as a water leader among a growing list of external stakeholders including presenting to internal and external audiences.
  • Integrate climate resiliency and co-benefits for nature, biodiversity, soil health, women’s empowerment, environmental justice, and farmer livelihoods into 2030 Water strategy.
  • Stay abreast of water stewardship, climate resilience, and strategic best practices and innovative ideas from within and outside the apparel retail industry.
  • Lead the Global Water Stewardship team in managing pilot projects and brand initiatives.
  • Integrate the water stewardship vision and strategy into Gap Inc. functions and Brands.
  • Coordinate and support marketing and communications efforts related to water stewardship initiatives and strategic alliances.
  • Set, track, and manage budget related to program priorities.

  • Demonstrated Team Leadership

  • Ability to engage external stakeholders and represent Gap Inc. as a leader in Water Stewardship
  • Knowledge and understanding of Water stewardship
  • Knowledge of sustainability issues, trends, and risks
  • Strong organizational skills and demonstrated project management experience, with ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously under tight timelines
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Proven ability to work across geographies and cultures. Ability to adapt style to a variety of cultural perspectives
  • General understanding of the retail industry, specifically as it relates to social and environmental impact, sourcing, and the apparel manufacturing industry
  • Strong oral, written and formal presentation skills, including ability to communicate complex ideas in a clear and concise manner
  • Attention to detail while effectively overseeing multiple demands and competing priorities 8 Open availability and flexibility to work according to the needs of the business
  • Proficient in use of MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
