The third pillar of the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGPs) states that individuals whose rights are harmed by business must have access to remedy. Despite 10 years of implementation of the UNGPs by companies and states alike, the remedy pillar remains largely undeveloped and under-fulfilled. There is little practical guidance on how to provide effective remedy, including a lack of tools on how to measure effectiveness, and few public case studies, limiting the ability to learn from others and advance the field.
As part of the Responsible Business and Human Rights Forum (RBHRF), Asia-Pacific, BSR will host a pre-forum session for companies on remedy. Through a case study and scenario exercise, this interactive workshop session aims to increase awareness of how a business can cause, contribute to, and be linked to human rights harms, and what this means for providing remedy, including on the technical approaches to providing remedy.

This event is part of the agenda of the UN Responsible Business and Human Rights Forum, Asia-Pacific 2024 and is for business participants only. To get access to the meeting venue, you will also need to register for the main event. This event is in-person only.
About the RBHRF, Asia-Pacific—2024
The 2024 UN RBHRF will convene stakeholders to explore what solutions are still needed to realize access to effective remedy and justice in Asia and the Pacific. The Forum will focus on the following three parallel tracks: domestic remedy, transnational remedy, and complementary strategies to facilitate access to remedy. The Forum will also explore sector-specific solutions, presenting opportunities for businesses to devise or advocate for remediation strategies tailor-made for specific industries, which are at the core of sustainable business models. The 2024 Forum will place significant emphasis on peer learning and training opportunities catered toward stakeholder groups, including businesses, governments, national human rights institutions, and civil society actors.
