For the first time, this report also discloses aggregated average utilization factors for each trade lane. The data reports on more than 2,900 ships calculated from 23 of the world's leading ocean container carriers.

For more than a decade, BSR has worked with many of the world's largest companies and their ocean-transport partners as part of the Clean Cargo Working Group (CCWG), one of BSR's longest-running collaborative initiatives. The group now comprises 40 members, cargo carriers (carriers), and their customers (freight-forwarders and shippers), representing approximately 85 percent of ocean container cargo. Through the CCWG tools and methodology, these companies are increasing transparency, helping them understand and manage their sustainability impacts.
